Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain in the Mongolian Altai Range is the highest mountain in Mongolia. In this sense, it is considered the roof of Mongolia. Mount Tavan Bogd is located in Ulaankhus Sum of Bayan-Olgii Province. Altai Tavan Bogd mountain has five main peaks, and three of Mongolia's largest glaciers, the Potanin Glacier, the Alexander Glacier, and the Grane Glacier, are located in Tavan Bogd. The largest of these is the Potanin Glacier, which is about 14 km long. Since Mongolian climbers first climbed it in 1956, more than 700 climbers have climbed it, and it has become a favorite mountain for climbers at home and abroad [1]. In 1996, Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain, Khoton, Hurgan, Dayan Lake, Khovd, Khar Salaa, Tsagaan Salaa, Onginot, and Yolt rivers were protected as Altai Tavan Bogd Nature Park in 1996. In 2012, Altai Tavan Bogd mountain became a state-sacred mountain to be worshiped once every 4 years.

Three of Mongolia's largest glaciers, Alexander, Graneg, and Potanin glaciers, are the source of the Tsagaan River's runoff.
