Khar Zurknii khukh nuur /Blue Lake/

Khar zurkhnii khukh nuur is a lake where Temujin /Genghis khan's childhood name/ was proclaimed as Genghis khan of Mongolian empire in 1189. This lake located in front of Khar Zurkh(in English Black heart) mountain and 1615 meters above sea level. Khar zurkhnii khukh nuur means in English; Blue Lake of Black Heart. On the shore of the lake, there is a monument built for the 840th anniversary of Genghis Khan's conquest, and around it, in a half-moon-shaped square with a diameter of 108 meters, wooden carvings of 36 kings of Mongolian Empire are placed. In the central part of them, there are carvings of Genghis Khan, his father Yesuhei, Queen Mother Ölen, and Burte Ujin, the great queen Borte Ujin. In front of the carvings of the kings, there is a panel with explanations in English and Mongolian about the things they did while leading the Mongolian state and the important events that happened at that time. On both sides of the main gate, nine stone carvings of Genghis Khan's generals are placed, and there are a total of 50 wood carvings in this complex.

Baldan bereeven monastery

Baldan Bereeven is the Mongolian translation of the Tibetan “Drepung , “pile of rice”, and the monastery was initially modeled after Drepung Monasteries in Tibet and India. Although the original temple complex was demolished during the Stalinist purges of the late 1930s, today three temples have been restored and grounds include the remains of nearly 50 temples, stupas and other religious edifices. The monastery grounds are surrounded by scenic and sacred mountains including Munkh Ulziit, Arvan Gurvan Sansar, Bayan Baraat, and Bayan Khangai, all part of the Khentii mountain range. The four mountains are said to resemble animals: a lion on the east; a dragon on the south; a tiger on the west; and a Garuda on the north. The monastery itself is backed by the steep cliff of Munkh Ulziit mountain where many cliff carvings, stone carvings with different images of Buddhist gods, inscriptions of religious mantras, and a large Soyombo symbol can be found.
