Elsen Tasarkhai.

Elsen Tasarhai is something of an oasis. It is located in Erdenetsogt soum in the Province of Overhangai and Bulgan. It happens to be crossed by the main Ulaanbaator-Kharhorin highway neighboring the Khogno Khan /Nature Reserve/.  These large dunes stretch for some 80km and are worth stopping off at for those who are not planning to visit the much more spectacular Khongoryn Els in the Gobi Desert. This is the perfect place for camel riding.

Here you will be riding a camel through the charming sandy hill passing by the fresh rivers and green land. /0.25h- 1h/.Traveling by camel at the Majesty of Elsen Tasarhai might make for some awesome photos.

After breakfast, we are driving to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of Mongolia. The legendary city was founded by the order of Chingis Khaan in 1220 and was completed by his son Ugudei.  The silk road went by the capital. The Mongolian Empire was governed from this city until Kubilai Khan moved the capital to Beijing.

In Kharhorin city, we will visit Erdenzuu, built-in 1586 by Abtai Khan, and the Museum of Kharkhorin. The monastery was built with typical Chinese and Tibetan buildings style including 108 sacred stupas.

On day 4 we will reach a tourist camp where we will stay in. On day 5, after breakfast, we will start exploring a Shireet lake. We will drive up to the mountain between Shireet lake and the tourist camp. After that, you will reach the shore of the lake by horse riding and walking. Our field cook will prepare lunch for you all when you reach the lake. On this day we will have lunch in the wild near the lake. Exploring Shireet lake is a major activity of the day.

Lake Shireet is one of 3 small lakes in the southeast of Mountain Ikh Mongol, 27 km north of Burd Soum of Uvurkhangai province. This lake is surrounded by sand and lizards found everywhere around the lake conjure up “Gobi” or half-desert in southern Mongolia. A forest of larch, wicker, and elm around the lake and a melody of cuckoo make the area appear much like a mountainous area in western Mongolia. It is so fascinating that such a small area like it covers all Mongolian distinctive natural features. It means you can see the gobi or half-desert zone, the forested region as well as mountainous area all at once. On the bank of this lake, in 1639 Zanabazar, a son of Tusheet khan Gombodorj, was titled “First Bogd Gegeen” and a castle, Shar Bust Urguu, was built. This laid the foundation of the current Ulaanbaatar. First Bogd Zanabazar consecrated a juniper of a particular type that grows in Mountain Ikh Mongol.

Overnight in Ger at a tourist camp        Meals: B,L,D

One of the main attractions of this area is the Uvgun monastery which was built in the 17th century by Saint Zanabazar who was a great sculptor and the biggest representative of Buddhism in Mongolia. During the Middle Ages feuds between Western and Eastern Mongolians (Dzungaria and Khalkh Mongolia) after the collapse of the Mongol Empire. The armies of Dzungarian leader Galdan Boshigt noticed the golden roofs of the temples in Khogno Khan Mountain and massacred the partisan monks of the rival Zanabazar in 1640, killing them by tying their necks with a rope (the Mongolian verb for the action is shoggoth) as if they were goats and sheep. This is the meaning of the name of the mountain. After the democratic revolution in 1990, the monastery was restored by the granddaughter of the monks who were living at the monastery. This area is pleasant for many activities such as hiking, mountain climbing, and horse riding.

Today we will explore Khusatai National park.

The Khustai National Park is world-famous for its successful reintroduction of Przewalski's Horse, Equus Przewalski, the only remaining wild horse, since 1992. In addition to the Takhi, as Mongolians call them, roaming freely in their homeland once again, the park and its surrounding area have much to offer to the lovers of nature and the culture of our beautiful country, located in the heartland of Asia. HNP is unique in that it is the only National Park that is managed by NGOs and financed by its income and does not receive any state subsidies. Therefore, HNP has developed a range of ecotourism initiatives to finance its conservation programs within the park. Incomes, earned through entrance fees, accommodation, souvenir sale, and donations, directly contribute to the Przewalski's Horse reintroduction program, as well as other research and conservation projects being undertaken within the park and its buffer zone.
